Part of Desta’s mission is to provide educational resources for Black students completing their high school diploma, as well as supporting individuals who have vocational and post-secondary goals.The Desta Scholarship Fund will benefit up to 5 students in 2024 based on their financial need, academic achievement, community involvement, leadership skills and dedication to their goals.

The Desta Scholarship Fund is focused on attracting students who have shown academic excellence and community engagement, with the goal of supporting them as they begin their postsecondary journey. Our hope is that by removing some of the financial barriers to education, students will be better equipped to tackle the work ahead of them. We are committed to providing frameworks that can help Black students rise and be the best versions of themselves that they can be. This fund is intended to support students at any level of post-secondary education, including trade schools and professional training.

The Desta Scholarship Fund is poised to offer scholarships to up to 5 students in 2024. Applications will open on May 10, 2024 and will close on June 7, 2024.  The selection committee will meet in June to select and interview candidates, and announcements will be made in August.

Qualifying applicants must meet all selection criteria:

  • Be a Black Canadian student pursuing a post-secondary educational program with a minimum average of 70%
  • Be a Black Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident residing in the Greater Montreal area
  • Be admitted to a recognized Canadian university, CEGEP or vocational school
  • Demonstrate a need for financial assistance
  • Demonstrate leadership in community service and volunteer activities
