Introduction to Production

Film Production

CEE Centre for Young Black Professionals (CEE) is partnering with DESTA Black Youth Network and Main Film on “Introduction to Production!”, a paid part-time training program for Black youth ages 18-35 in Montreal aimed at introducing participants to the world of film and TV production.

The pilot program ran in the Fall of 2022. The purpose of the program was to reduce the barriers aspiring Black film & TV professionals face entering the production sector in Quebec by providing access to virtual and hands-on training and education as well as support with industry wayfinding and career planning.

This program provided an orientation to the production process, production departments and career paths. While participants learned about the big picture, they also received hands-on training on the role of a production assistant. Training included soft skills (interpersonal skills), technical skills, set etiquette and lingo, gear orientation, production knowledge and job search skills. Those who complete the training can apply to one of five work-training placement opportunities on TV and Film productions in Montreal!

Black In Film Event

Black in Film was a FREE industry event that happened in Montreal on August 29th from 2-5! Black in Film was a free career event aimed at bringing emerging and entry-level Black film and TV professionals into the fold of Montreal’s ever-expanding film and TV industry. A mix of panel discussions with industry professionals and pragmatic ‘how-to” sessions provided attendees with access to people and information that illuminated pathways into the sector and inspired action. In between sessions, attendees had the opportunity to network with some of Montreal’s best and brightest film and tv professionals.

Our hope is to inspire, educate and empower Black talent to imagine their stories on screen and see themselves behind the scenes
