The DESTA Scholarship Fund supports Black students in Quebec with post-secondary aspirations to attend colleges, universities and vocational schools across Canada. Since 2021, we have welcomed applications from ambitious Black students, eager to further their education, while making meaningful contributions to their communities. The DESTA Scholarship Fund is focused on supporting students who have achieved academic excellence and have a strong track record of community leadership.This fund removes financial barriers to education, ensuring Black students can thrive and succeed in a fast changing employment landscape. Thanks to the generosity of previous partners, The Cole Foundation and Deloitte, we have dispersed scholarships upwards of $90,000 to eligible Black students, alleviating the financial burden of pursuing higher education, and supporting their academic dreams and personal growth.
The Desta Scholarship Fund is poised to offer scholarships to 4 students in 2025. Applications will open on July 1st, 2025 and will close on July 31st, 2025. The selection committee will meet to select and interview candidates, and recipient announcements will be made in August.
Qualifying applicants must meet all selection criteria:
- Be a Black Canadian student pursuing a post-secondary educational program with a minimum average of 70%
- Be a Black Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident residing in the Greater Montreal area
- Be admitted to a recognized Canadian university, CEGEP or vocational school
- Demonstrate a need for financial assistance
- Demonstrate leadership in community service and volunteer activities
